Nagpur, Dec. 12 -- Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday told the Legislative Assembly that the state has requested financial assistance of more than Rs 29,000 crore from the union government to support farmers impacted by this year's unseasonal rains and flooding.
Pawar, who also holds the finance portfolio, made the remarks during a discussion on the supplementary demands in the Assembly's winter session.
He said the state has already disbursed Rs 44,000 crore in relief to farmers affected by excessive rainfall and floods. An additional Rs 29,781 crore has now been sought from the Centre to expand assistance efforts.
