Mumbai, April 16 -- The Maharashtra government has approved a hike in document handling charges for the sale or purchase of properties in the state, officials said here on Wednesday.

Following this, citizens will have to pay more when registering an agreement -- from the earlier Rs 20 to now Rs 40 per page of the agreement.

For registering documents, three types of payments are required to be paid - the stamp duty, registration fee, and document handling charges.

While the stamp duty and registration fee go to the state government, the document handling charges are recovered by the software company that handles the computerisation of the entire process of registration.
