Nagpur, Sept. 13 -- The Maharashtra government defended its flagship welfare scheme 'Ladki Bahin Yojana' before the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court and rejected allegations that the initiative would put an excessive financial burden on the state exchequer.
Appearing before the court, state authorities maintained that the scheme, aimed at providing financial assistance to women, has been introduced after careful budgetary planning.
They argued that claims of fiscal strain were unfounded and that allocations had been made within sustainable limits.
The High Court is hearing petitions challenging the scheme on the grounds of financial viability and constitutional validity. The matter will continue for further hearing.
