Mumbai, Nov. 4 -- The Maharashtra government is considering sterilisation and relocation of leopards as part of a focused response to increasing human-wildlife conflict in rural pockets of the state, following recent fatal incidents.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today stated that the proposed measures aim to provide substantial relief to communities living in leopard-prone regions. The move comes in the aftermath of a tragic incident in Sharur in Pune district, where a young child was killed in a leopard attack.
Terming the situation serious, Fadnavis noted that similar leopard encounters are being reported from several parts of Maharashtra, prompting a detailed examination of intervention strategies at the government level.
