Maha Council panel suggests 5-day imprisonment for 4 journalists over privilege breach

Nagpur, Dec. 13 -- A Special Privileges Committee of the Maharashtra Legislative Council has recommended a five-day jail term for four journalists for allegedly defaming MLC Amol Mitkari by publishing false and fabricated reports against him.

Placing the committee's report before the Upper House today, its chairman Prasad Lad said that a YouTube channel, Satya Ladha, had aired misleading and untrue content with the intention of damaging Mitkari's public image.

Mitkari had moved a breach of privilege notice against Akola-based journalists Ganesh Sonawane, Harshada Sonawane, Amol Nandurkar and Ankush Gawande, along with Satya Ladha editor Satish Deshmukh.
