Mumbai, Dec. 18 -- Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday paid tribute to Padma Shri and Maharashtra Bhushan awardee sculptor Ram Sutar, saying that a devoted and ascetic sculptor who engraved his own name and that of Maharashtra in the field of sculpture has passed behind the veil of time.

He spoke to Sutar's son, Anil Sutar, over telephone and conveyed his condolences. In his condolence message, the Chief Minister said that with Ram Sutar's demise, the world has lost an artist of global repute.
