Mumbai, Dec. 17 -- The Maharashtra Cabinet on Wednesday approved an ordinance to amend the Maharashtra Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis Act, 1961, with a view to ensuring the timely conduct of local body elections across the state.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, which cleared the promulgation of the Maharashtra Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025. The amendment is aimed at removing procedural hurdles that have led to delays in elections to Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis.
