Mumbai, Dec. 18 -- The Maharashtra state cabinet has taken a significant decision to remove encroachments from historic forts across the state.

A high-level committee has been constituted for this purpose, with the Cultural Affairs Minister as its chairperson and the Revenue Minister as co-chairperson. BJP MLA Nitesh Rane has been appointed as a member of the committee.

Reacting to his appointment, Rane today expressed gratitude to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The committee has been entrusted with the responsibility of identifying and removing unauthorised constructions on forts and other historically important sites.
