Mumbai, Oct. 9 -- In a major step towards strengthening emergency healthcare infrastructure, the Maharashtra Health Department has approved the procurement of 1,700 new ambulances under an ambitious Rs 872 crore expansion plan.
The initiative, finalised during a high-level meeting chaired by Health Minister Prakash Abitkar, will be implemented through a public-private partnership model, with the Health Department contributing 49 percent of the cost and the operating organisations covering the remaining 51 percent.
The enhanced ambulance network aims to improve critical healthcare access for pregnant women, rural residents, and accident victims requiring urgent medical care.
