Mumbai, Feb. 20 -- A session court here awarded seven years imprisonment, a minimum punishment, to an old watchman for attempting to kill a woman residing in the building where he was employed as she resisted his rape attempt in April 2017.
Additional sessions judge AA Kulkarni held accused Raja Sabu guilty for outraging the modesty of the woman but acquitted him of an attempt to rape.
The court showed leniency, saying that he was 25 years old then and has "future prospects," so the purpose of "punishment shall have to be reformative."
