Mumbai, June 1 -- After the Maharashtra Goseva Ayog ordered the closure of all cattle markets across the state from June three to June eight, coinciding with Eid-ul-Adha (Bakri Eid) on June seven, the move has drawn sharp criticism from the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), which has demanded an immediate review and withdrawal of the order.

VBA state spokesperson Tayyab Zafar told UNI on Sunday that the directive, issued to all Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs), aims to prevent illegal slaughter of cows and related violations under the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, which bans the slaughter and possession of cow, bull and bullock meat.
