Gadchiroli, Sept. 17 -- Two women Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district, police said today.

The exchange of fire took place in a forest near Modaske village under the Gatta Jambhiya police station limits of Etapalli taluka.

Acting on intelligence inputs about Naxalite movement, a joint team of C-60 commandos from Aheri, the Gatta Jambhiya Post party, and personnel of the CRPF's 191st battalion launched a search operation.

During the operation, the Naxalites allegedly opened fire on the security personnel, prompting retaliation. The ensuing gun battle resulted in the deaths of the two women Naxalites, an official said.
