Mumbai, June 17 -- Police in neighbouring Navi Mumbai city have registered an offence against two people for allegedly systematically extorting Rs 43.46 lakh from a local spa owner over a five-year period through threats and intimidation, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
According to officials at Sanpada Police Station, the accused allegedly targeted the woman business owner, menacing her with threats to report purported illicit activities at her spa establishment to law enforcement agencies. Leveraging this intimidation, the duo is reported to have demanded a fixed monthly "hafta" (protection money) payment of Rs 50,000.
