Thane, July 23 -- A major joint operation by Thane's Regional Transport Office (RTO) and Traffic Police has uncovered alarming lapses in student transportation, resulting in the seizure of 47 illegal private vans ferrying schoolchildren, officials said today.

The intensive six-day safety drive inspected 202 vehicles, revealing widespread disregard for mandatory safety regulations and exposing students to significant risk.

Authorities confirmed the impounded vehicles were operating without essential permits, valid fitness certificates, or proper driver licensing.
