Mumbai, Aug. 15 -- Police foiled self-immolation attempts at six locations across Maharashtra during Independence Day celebrations today.
Incidents occurred in Mumbai, Buldhana, Dhulia, Solapur, Indapur, and Wardha, with grievances primarily involving land disputes, unpaid dues, and demands for justice.
Prompt police intervention prevented any casualties, and investigations are underway at all local stations.
At Mumbai's Mantralaya gate, individuals from Ambad in Nashik district protested against land encroachments. A crowd gathered suddenly, and some protesters attempted suicide by dousing themselves with an incendiary substance. Marine Lines Police Station officers intervened immediately, detaining the individuals for investigation.
