Thane, Aug. 18 -- Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that a new initiative called the "Laadki Sun" (beloved daughter-in-law) scheme will be launched by the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) to curb the rising cases of domestic violence.
The scheme aims to provide support to victimised daughters-in-law while also honouring households where cordial mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationships are maintained.
Speaking on the occasion, Shinde said that the stereotypical strained relations between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law needs to change.
The initiative will be implemented through Shiv Sena branches and offices.
A helpline number has been set up for women facing harassment at their in-laws' homes.
