Gadchiroli, Dec. 1 -- : A rare sighting of the striated grassbird has been recorded in Chaprala Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district, the state forest department announced through a press release on Monday.

This discovery is significant, as the species is extremely uncommon in eastern Maharashtra.

Sub-DFO Mangesh Balapure noted that prior to this, the striated grassbird had been reported only once in the Tapi River basin of Jalgaon district, along the Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh border. With just one recent record from Chandrapur district, the new observation at Chaprala marks an important extension of the bird's known range within the state.
