Mumbai, Sept. 9 -- The Railway Police today suspended a police inspector and 12 constables for allegedly extorting long-distance passengers at Thane and Panvel railway stations.
According to reports, the officers targeted passengers carrying jewellery or large amounts of cash. The passengers were taken to rooms without CCTV cameras where their luggage was checked.
The accused officials allegedly threatened passengers with action if they could not provide receipts for their jewellery or cash transaction documents, and then extorted valuables from them.
