Nagpur, Oct. 22 -- More than 12,000 men and nearly 78,000 ineligible women have allegedly received financial benefits under the Maharashtra government's "Ladki Bahin" scheme, an initiative aimed exclusively at economically weaker women.

Information obtained through the Right to Information (RTI) Act revealed that the fraudulent claims resulted in an estimated misappropriation of Rs 164.52 crore.

The RTI response showed that 12,431 men and 77,980 ineligible women were disbursed monthly assistance of Rs 1,500 for a duration of 12 to 13 months. Of the total misappropriated amount, approximately Rs 24.24 crore was paid to male beneficiaries, and Rs 140.28 crore was given to women who did not meet the eligibility criteria.
