Palghar, Dec. 5 -- A newborn baby was found dead in a garbage dump near the Sakhar Ashram School in Sabre, located in Dahanu taluka of Palghar district, an official said on Thursday that the distressing discovery was made on Wednesday by local residents, who promptly informed the Dahanu police.
Police personnel arrived at the spot and conducted a formal panchnama of the scene. The body of the infant was then sent to a local hospital for a post-mortem examination to aid the ongoing investigation. Preliminary observations by the police suggest the baby was abandoned very shortly, or immediately, after birth.
