Mumbai, Feb. 2 -- A 45-year-old villager was allegedly killed by naxals on Sunday in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district on suspicion that he was a police informer, officials said.

According to Gadchiroli superintendent of police Neelotpal, a civilian Sukhram Madavi was strangulated to death early this morning in Kiyer village of Bhamragad tehsil in south Gadchiroli.

A pamphlet was found near the body, the killer (naxals) falsely alleged that he was a police informer and helped police to open up new camps like Pengunda in the area.

This is the first murder of a civilian this year.

Further investigation is being done in this matter by Gadchiroli Police. UNI AAA SS
