Mumbai, Jan. 5 -- Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) today moved the Bombay High Court seeking a court-monitored independent inquiry into the "mass withdrawals" of candidates for the municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra while praying that the results of the said constituencies shall not be declared until final disposal of the petition.
The petition was filed by party's Thane unit leader Avinash Jadhav, alleging that the rival candidates were coerced, intimidated or allured into withdrawing their nominations, violating the "free and fair" mandate of Article 243-ZA of the Constitution.
Jadhav's petition seeks a stay on the declaration of results in over 68 seats, where the ruling Mahayuti has claimed "unopposed" victories.
