Kolhapur, Feb. 12 -- In a bold action said to be first in Maharashtra, the district police today detained a woman in a case of immoral human trafficking under the MPDA law, sending a strong message against organized crime.

Since organized and recurring crimes like human trafficking and illegal gambling and lottery have a serious impact on public order, social peace and especially the safety of women, the state government has included human trafficking and illegal gambling operators in the MPDA Act (Maharashtra Slum Gangsters, Hand Bhattiwales, Drugs Offenders, Dangerous Persons etc, Prevention Act.1981) through an amendment in 2025.
