Amravati, June 24 -- Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against a 21-year-old man after his 17-year-old Nepali wife gave birth at Amravati District Women's Hospital in Maharashtra on June 17, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The case emerged when medical staff alerted authorities upon confirming the mother's minor status.

According to Rajapeth Police Station officials, the couple married in Nepal on December 14, 2023, through traditional ceremonies attended by the girl's parents. At the time of marriage, the bride was 15 years old while her husband was 19.
