Chandrapur, Feb. 16 -- A 65-year-old farmer from Pachgaon village in Rajura taluka of Maharashtra's Chandrapur district died after allegedly consuming pesticide following prolonged distress linked to repeated crop failures, officials said today.
The deceased has been identified as Kamalakar Rajeshwar Bhende.
According to officials, the incident occurred on February 14 at around 5 pm, when he consumed pesticide reportedly kept at home for agricultural use.
Family members rushed him to the Sub-District Hospital in Rajura, from where he was referred to the Government Hospital in Chandrapur for further treatment.
He was declared dead during treatment on February 15, hospital sources said.
