Mumbai, May 31 -- On occasion of 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, the celebrated queen of the Maratha-ruled Malwa kingdom, the Dhangar community in Maharashtra on Saturday demanded to rename Mumbai's iconic Churchgate railway station on her name.
Talking to media here, Prakash Shendage, prominent leader of the Dhangar community, questioned the relevance of the current name, noting, "There is neither any church nor any gate here, so why retain the name Churchgate?"
He pointed out that a nearby intersection already bears Ahilyabai Holkar's name and argued that the station should also reflect her legacy.
