Mumbai, Nov. 19 -- The Congress has taken stringent disciplinary action during the ongoing civic polls, suspending two leaders for six years over alleged anti-party activities.

Jessabhai Motwani of Gadchiroli district and Ghanshyam Mulchandani of Ballarpur in Chandrapur have been barred from all party-related functions following complaints that both were engaged in conduct detrimental to Congress interests.

The suspension directives were issued on the instructions of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Harshvardhan Sapkal.

Party officials said the two leaders were expelled from organisational roles with immediate effect.
