Mumbai, Feb. 18 -- The Maharashtra Cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Tuesday gave its approval for establishment of the Sixth State Finance Commission.

The State Finance Commission will review the financial position of Panchayats and Municipalities.

The Commission will make recommendations for a period of five years from April one, 2026 to March 31, 2031.

The Commission will have a deadline of December 31, 2025 to submit its report on these recommendations.

The meeting also approved giving the Chief Minister the right to recommend the name of the chairman and members of the Commission to the Governor.
