Nagpur, Feb. 6 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today consolidated its hold over the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) with Nita Thakre being elected as the Mayor of Nagpur, making her the eighth woman to hold the post.
Thakre won the mayoral election by 104 votes, defeating Congress candidate Snehal Thakre during a special general body meeting of corporators.
In a parallel contest, Leela Hathibed, also from the BJP, was elected as the Deputy Mayor, securing the same margin of 104 votes.
The elections were conducted through a secret ballot process amid tight security arrangements at the civic body headquarters.
