Mumbai, Feb. 22 -- Bezwada Wilson, Ramon Magsaysay Awardee and national convener of Safai Karmachari Andolan, on Saturday highlighted the problem of manual scavenging due to its life-threatening nature of work and advocated the need of a proper sanitation system.

Speaking in a session titled 'The Humanitarian Touch - Creating a Kinder Universe' at ABP Network's Ideas of India 2025 event, Wilson stated that, "Manual scavenging is toxic and life-threatening. Just building toilets is not enough, how can we leave people to clean our waste? Even after independence, we have not fully transformed a single city. India still lacks a proper sanitation system. We cannot allow humans to clean human excreta."
