Mumbai, Nov. 17 -- The BJP late this evening stayed its earlier decision on the induction of Kashinath Choudhary, an NCP leader from Palghar accused of involvement in a mob lynching of two Hindu monks in 2020.

The decision was taken by top party leaders after facing criticism and backlash on social media apart from dissenting voices within the party's rank and file. The induction was perceived as augmenting the party's organizational strength in Palghar district ahead of the local body elections.

BJP state president president Ravindra Chavan issued a directive staying the induction this evening. "Considering the sensitivity of the subject, Chaudhary's induction has been stayed," he said in a statement.
