Chennai, Jan. 7 -- Ordering an interim stay on the release and circulation of a Tamil book allegedly targeting Madurai Bench of Madras High Court Justice GR Swaminathan, the First Bench of Madras High Court has termed its title and caricature as 'abusive, derogatory and highly contemptuous' and initiated contempt proceedings against the publisher of 'Keezhaikaatru Publications' onWednesday.
The First Bench comprising Chief Justice MM Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan, taking suo motu notice of the matter, observed that the launch of the book at the 49th Chennai Book Fair slated for tomorrow has tended to directly scandalise the judiciary, crossingall limits of fair criticism.
