Chennai, Dec. 12 -- The Madras High Court today set aside a Single Judge order issued an order infavour of TANGEDCO (now TNDPCL) with revenue implications of around Rs. 700 crores in a decadeold case.

A Division Bench comprising of Dr. Justice G. Jayachandran and Mr. Justice Mummineni Sudheer Kumarallowed a batch of over 100 writ appeals filed by TANGEDCO against an order of a Single Judge settingaside the demands raised by TANGEDCO on all HT industrial consumers towards demand charges.

In 2006, the Tamil Nadu State Electricity Commission provided for a concessional method of calculatingdemand called "deemed demand" for HT consumers having their own captive generating plants/ openaccess consumption but also drawing power from TANGEDCO.
