Mandya, Sept. 9 -- Tension gripped Maddur town in Mandya district, Karnataka, following stone-throwing incidents during a Ganesha idol immersion procession that left 13 people injured and 22 detained by the police.

Authorities deployed over 1,000 personnel and imposed strict security measures to prevent further disturbances, while right-wing organisations called for a bandh in the town.

Police said the trouble began around 9 pm on September 7 when stones were allegedly hurled at a Ganesha procession from the vicinity of a local mosque.
