Los Angeles, Nov. 22 -- Stone Roses bassist Gary "Mani" Mounfield, known for the iconic opening notes of the band's 1989 classic "I Wanna Be Adored" and later for his work with Primal Scream, has passed away at the age of 63.

The news was confirmed by his brother Greg Mounfield, who wrote on Facebook, "It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce the sad passing of my brother Gary Mani Mounfield. RIP Rkid." The cause of death has not been disclosed.
