Kyiv, Feb. 25 -- French President Emmanuel Macron believes that a ceasefire in the Ukrainian conflict could be reached within a few weeks.

"I hope so," Macron said in an interview with Fox News when asked whether it would be possible to settle the Ukraine conflict in a few weeks, as US President Donald Trump expected.

The arrival of Trump is a game changer, and he has the deterrence capacity of the US to re-engage with Russia, the French leader said.

"So I think it's feasible. My concern is that we have to go fast, but we need something first, a truce which could be assessed and checked, and full-fledged negotiation," he added.

Macron noted the need for solid security guarantees for all sides.
