Lucknow, March 18 -- As part of the campaign to preserve historical buildings in Uttar Pradesh and restore them as cultural and historical centres, the process of converting Butler Palace in Lucknow into a 'book cafe' has been started, official sources said here on Tuesday.

Sources said that as per the plan, various activities including exhibitions, workshops, and art galleries will be conducted in this book cafe housed in the iconic building.

It may be noted that originally built in 1915 by Raja Mahmudabad in memory of Sir Spencer Harcourt Butler, the then Deputy Commissioner of Awadh, Butler Palace holds significant historical value.
