Low Pressure Area over Bay persists, to become more marked, to bring heavy rains in Cauvery delta, southern dists

Chennai, Feb. 16 -- The Low Pressure Area over the Bay will become moremarked in two days bringing in heavy rains in Cauvery Delta and southern districtsof Tamil Nadu on February 21 and 22 where an Yellow Alert was issued by the Metoffice for the two days.

This is the first Low Pressure area in the month of February after a gap of 23 years.

A similar system was last formed in 2002 February.

In an update, the Met Office said the Low Pressure Area over east Equatorial IndianOcean and adjoining central parts of south Bay of Bengal persisted over the sameregion at 1730 hrs this evening.

The associated upper air cyclonic circulation extended upto 5.8 km above meansea level.
