Amaravati, Aug. 17 -- A low-pressure area has formed over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, off the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts, under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation on Sunday morning. The system was observed at 0830 hours, the Meteorological Centre said.

In a daily weather report here, it said that the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 9.6 km above mean sea level and is tilting southwestwards with height. It is expected to move west-northwestwards, intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours, and cross the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts around the forenoon of August 19.
