Bengaluru, May 7 -- Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly R Ashok on Thursday mounted a sharp political attack on the outgoing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that the state was witnessing a breakdown of democratic values in the post-election period.

Speaking to reporters at the BJP state office, he said reports of post-poll violence in West Bengal reflected a disturbing situation where opposition voices were being targeted and law and order was deteriorating.

He alleged that the Trinamool Congress government had failed to ensure safety and fairness after elections and claimed that political instability had become a recurring feature in the state.
