Shillong, July 30 -- Ronnie V. Lyngdoh, former Meghalaya Minister and lone Congress legislator, resigned from the primary membership of the grand old party today and defected to the ruling National People's Party (NPP), an ally of the BJP the same day.
The Congress number in the Assembly has been reduced to zero with Lyngdoh's decision to defect to the NPP. Lyngdoh, who represents Mylliem constituency, submitted his resignation in person to Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma, and he was accompanied by NPP leader and Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs, Sniawbhalang Dhar besides Lyngdoh's supporters and family members.
