New Delhi, Aug. 19 -- Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today announced that the proceedings of the House will now be translated into all 22 languages listed in the eighth schedule of the Constitution. As the Lower House met, Birla said, "I am very pleased to inform the House that we are now providing translation of the proceedings in all the languages mentioned in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution."

The Speaker said that until now, the Lok Sabha proceedings were translated into Hindi, English, and 18 other languages including Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Kannada, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
