New Delhi, Jan. 1 -- The Government is the biggest litigant in court, and the Ministry of Law and Justice took it upon itself as its top priority to fast-track and wind up as many cases possible in 2025.
The Government is the fattest litigant sitting heavy on the court roster across India with the judicial system creaking under its load.
According to the National Judicial Data Grid figures, 53 million cases are pending across all levels as of late 2025, primarily in lower courts (47 million), high courts (6.3 million) and the Supreme Court (90,000).
