Sydney, Dec. 1 -- Emergency warnings have been issued for residents in several coastal suburbs of Geraldton, Western Australia (WA), as a life-threatening bushfire threatens homes and communities.

The WA Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) issued a Bushfire Emergency warning for residents in Bluff Point, Spalding, Sunset Beach, and surrounding areas, bounded by Crowtherton Street, Chapman Valley Road, the coastline, and Spalding Park Golf Course.

Authorities warned of a "direct threat to lives and homes" as the fire continues to burn amid hot and windy conditions.
