Kolkata, Sept. 24 -- After a trail of devastation caused by unprecedented rain, life in Kolkata is slowly limping back to normalcy.

The city recorded over 300 mm of rain on Monday night, leaving behind widespread destruction and killing at least 11 lives. Large parts of south Kolkata continue to remain under water, disrupting power supply and drinking water, and forcing residents to stay indoors.

Local authorities, including the Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation, have been working round the clock to restore snapped power lines and damaged connections in inundated areas. Many ground-floor homes are still submerged. Several hospitals also bore the brunt of the downpour, with knee-deep water entering their premises.
