Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 15 -- Election authorities in Kerala have directed all licensed firearm holders to surrender their weapons at their respective police stations by November 19, ahead of the upcoming local body elections.

The move is part of enhanced security measures aimed at ensuring peace and preventing any untoward incidents during the election period.

Officials warned that non-compliance will attract strict legal action under the Arms Act, relevant rules, and Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
