Imphal, Aug. 15 -- Manipur Governor AK Bhalla paid rich tributes to the great freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives to win freedom and remembered their efforts to build India.

Addressing the Independence Day celebration here today at 1st Manipur Rifles parade ground, the Governor said the past struggles of our forefathers should be remembered because these led to a free, united and democratic India.

The collective effort of the non-violence movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi and the armed resistance movement of Subhas Chandra Bose led to the freedom of the country, he added.
