Mumbai, Jan. 3 -- The State Election Commission of Maharashtra has ordered a comprehensive investigation into 69 candidates who have been declared elected unopposed across 29 municipal corporations in the state following widespread nomination withdrawals announced on January 3.

The ruling Mahayuti alliance, comprising BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP (AP), has secured 68 of these unopposed victories with the BJP winning 44 seats, Shiv Sena 22 seats and NCP 2 seats, while one independent candidate also secured unopposed victory.
