Cairo, Dec. 20 -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, held talks in Cairo on Friday focused on the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza peace plan, Egypt's foreign minister said.

Speaking at a joint press conference, Abdelatty said Egypt is continuing its diplomatic efforts to advance the plan, which is expected to enter its next stage in the near future. The proposed measures include the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip, the deployment of peacekeeping forces, and the formation of a civilian committee to administer the territory.
