Imphal, June 6 -- Major landslides in about 170 places, including national highways, have cut off Manipur from the rest of the country, even as over 1.7 lakh people have been affected by floods in the state, while four persons have died and hundreds of displaced persons are living in 80 relief centres.

Authorities have made some diversions to enable people to travel on foot, with the highways being cut off.

Relief and repair works in Manipur and Nagaland have slowed down due to continuous heavy rainfall for almost eight days now.

About 708 villages have been affected and 36,000 houses were washed away by the floods.
